Tomorrow is Gonna be so Awesome!!

Heart pounds. Pupils dilate. Muscles tense up. That moment is here.

Dayton WordCamp 2016 kicks off tomorrow and this year, I am one of the speakers! I’m so honored! I took a chance when I applied to be a speaker. I love getting out of my comfort zone and speaking in front of a crowd is part of that fun. I actually enjoy speaking in front of crowds because it’s that “fight or flight” moment; that moment when I question everything I thought I would be funny to say; that moment where I prove to myself that I have more inside of me than I realized.

My talk is called “What to Write When You Don’t Know What to Write.” I feel like I have a lot to say about it. After all, I’ve been writing for 22 years. When I think about how I’ve been writing since I was five, I think about how far I’ve come as a writer. I used to criticize myself and wonder why I’m not farther along, whatever that means. Within the last two years, I started my blog, which you are so awesome to be reading; I began writing professionally for companies all over the United States; I began writing for a newspaper; I have my own column in that newspaper; I write for a non-profit organization, writing tutorials for people who need to make connections within government offices (it’s harder than it sounds); I write for my best friend’s and my webseries (; and I have made exponential progress in my young adult novel. I did not see all this coming back then! Success snowballs, so imagine what is in the future!

If you think about it, we’re all pretty far along…further with each tick of the clock. But after you live for 27 years, many of us realize what works for us and what does not. I’ve never improved under criticism. Chances are, many other people don’t either.

So, in a critical world, one point I hope to get across in my 40-minute talk tomorrow is that inspiration starts with a brand of self-compassion and hope. When we hold hope for ourselves and treat ourselves well, we can do so much better.

I will update soon! Keep me in your thoughts!!
